Some of you may remember me from my 100% of the Yakuza series. I’m ready to continue with my copy of Yakuza 7 4 days early. So better ask Reddit what’s the best game you’ve got and early and how early was it?
Ok since I’m new to Reddit and only have a two yakuza games under my belt(kiwami zero). I was wondering what was everyone’s fav boss in the series I should be looking forward to???
Things Coco has done Newcomers should know (and some Hololive History)
She made Asacoco, a satirical morning news stream with the purpose of cheering up people going to work/school in the morning. She used to do this everydayevery weekday three times a week covering Hololive and herself. This started immediately after debut and was a huge success, garnering around 20K-70K live viewers every stream despite it happening at 6AM JST and Coco needing 8hrs of preparation every time. With other Holo girls frequently being featured in news, commercials and segments, it was an effective means of advertising their channels and helped foster Hololive's tight knit image. Here's non-Hololiver's perspective of it.
She lightened the severity of the girls' 'mistakes' by using them as news material. A famous example is Watame's early poor internet connection that was so bad, she once disconnected over 60 times on one stream. It came to the point that Coco presenting an image of Watame holding a placard with a number was all she needed to tell how many times she's disconnected and didn't need to elaborate more. Here's Coco roasting lamb | Here's Watame's famous FULL apology video.
She was responsible for the infamous Ark Addiction that spread all through Hololive(and Nijisanji). She even paid for Hololive's Ark Server, despite not earning anything during that time. Why was she not earning anything? Because back then, the girls had to be active for a whole month before their monetization could be enabled. Needless to say, Tatsunokos collectively busted their wallets on Coco's first monetized stream, otherwise known as the most insane SC train I've ever seen. It's so long, it went literally unbroken for 14 minutes and 55 seconds straight.
You know how sometimes, when the girls go to the toilet and people start throwing blue SCs to signify flushing? For reasons unknown, her fans/Tatsunokos are responsible for that. Here's PPT and Marine's funny reaction to it.
Proposed and fought for the idea of using Streamlabs during a time when many Hololive members were being demonitized. Many speculate it was because they were too sexy but this is questionable due to PPT's inclusion. She did daily updates on the matter and management considered but later disregarded the idea, worried about how YT would react to losing money, and instead gave some of them costumes with their cleavages covered instead. Here's a Streamlabs CM feat. PPT, Aki Rose, Choco, Mel, Haato, Coco and Noel.
Because of the issue above, non-JP youtubers, made videos and tweets spreading awareness about it and were able to earn a response from Youtube. Most of the girls got their monetizations back and Coco bridged the language barrier, acknowledging their part in helping Hololive. Here's an Asacoco clip of what he has to say after this.
Despite the possible backlash and the trouble she would get from management, Coco spread awareness and defended Projekt Melody when she was receiving hate messages for topping an adult site despite being just 'a moving picture'. Melody responded with a thank you video to her afterwards. Unfortunately, it is doubtful we would ever see these two collab since management has forbid Coco from mentioning her ever again. Here's the unsubbed video of it.
With PPT's poor t-shirt sales (the light blue, lamely designed, over expensive rag), Coco made a meme out of it and made it a must have merch for PPT fans. To further market the thing, Coco released a rag shirt of her own and announced a t-shirt selling competition with PPT. iirc Coco lost lmao. Here's them talking about their expensive rags.
Comforted Aqua after that Smash Bros and Ark issue by playing with her in The Raft. This stream revolved around the hardships of being a streamer and is probably the most important stream here. Here's an incredible SUBBED video of the whole stream!
Proposed Holohouse, a home where any of the girls can live or drop by whenever they want, providing irl support. Why is this needed? Because some live alone and want company, some live with their family who might make too much noise and reveal NG information about the streamers, some live with thin walls and had to go to separate places just to stream, some live in the countryside where there's poor internet connection and is far away from the office, making 3D streams and off collabs difficult etc.
You would think her plans of purchasing land and building a house is a meme but she's actually drawn floorplans and asked a foreman about costings for this. She's shared these details on stream but I couldn't find any of the clips anymore. For now, we have Holohouse Lite, a building near the office which houses Coco, PPT and Suisei(and her sister, Anemachi). Rushia moved nearby but I'm unsure if she's in the same building. Others have expressed interest in moving too. Since it is near the office, it now sometimes serve as a place where the girls can stayover or make a pitstop after idol training. There's a LOT of clips about this... discriminations against house hunting Youtubers, their house rules, the successful announcement, irl off collab stories etc.
Popularized memes and reddit as a way for JP girls to interact with us because it's easier to understand pictures than learning a whole new language. With Coco inviting the others to Reddit Meme Review, it also generates new memes for the guests and generates more exposure for them.
Lastly, something yall probably already know, she's the one to propose a Hololive branch dedicated for English speakers. During ID Gen1's debut announcement, she also announced a new idol for HoloUSA. As further proof of her involvement, she's made this CM for HoloEN's audition and is the center idol in twitter's campaigns.
TLDR. Coco's not only a vulgar, meme-y, yakuza dragon. Coco's also a hard working, compassionate idol who deserves every bit of sub, SC, respect, love and more. We love you, Coco! We will support you always. Edit: She was one of the first to reach out to overseas viewers not just through culture but also through adding subtitles in her videos. One of the earliest, if not the first, is this video of when YT suspended her from streaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2di61BNqMek&list=PLw58RgSzDmjr7hbo0zrfaQ027uMc6WHfO&index=83 The reason for her suspension is unclear but this is the start of what Marine calls the Kiryuu Coco Line, the limit of what the girls can do before YT bonks them in the head. Also, she's got a 9000 dollar bed, only because it was the amount of money the viewers sent upon hearing her using a futon. This helped her sleep deprivation of which was so terrible she had to take sleeping pills before bed. Here's her reacting to herself after taking some and playing games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcW75aH5WXE On her 3D debut, she sang an English version of Shiny Smily Story she translated herself. On a side note, on the first Asacoco, she was gutsy enough to point out the misspelled ‘Smily’ on the song name. She originally applied as a part of management but upon learning that she has experience in regards to being a vtuber, they recommended that she apply as talent. It was amazing timing since auditions for 4th gen was on going during that time. She lived independently after highschool, and finished university... TWICE... AS A WORKING STUDENT. She loves studying: https://youtu.be/XxTDQtWKC2c Thank you, u/fyrespyrit for helping me format!
Hi I'm CyricZ. I've written guides on GameFAQs for most games made by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios. AMA.
First of all, thanks to everyone for the generous outpouring of praise. I've seen so many of your posts and comments over the last year and I can't tell you how much those positive feelings mean to me. Honestly up to this point I've been hesitant to post here. It's one of those weird things where people know you by reputation more than by direct engagement, and honestly it seemed a little scary to me to try to just step into a community that views you a certain way. Also it takes me a while to try new things like... Reddit in general. This is the most active on Reddit I've ever been. That said, through all my years I've never seen a community more positive, welcoming, and supportive than the Yakuza fandom. It really speaks to this series' quality that the subject of Japanese crime is such a good focal point for a great fandom. So to avoid awkward weirdness, I'm basically just... here now? I guess? I'm not trying to pretend to be a celebrity or anything. I'm just looking to participate. I figure it was either this or stealthily comment and finagle my way into conversations, and I think I'd rather be upfront in this case. EDIT (2/9/2021) - Oh gosh this is amazing. Let me address some of the more common questions in this post: Favorite game in the series: Yakuza 0 Least favorite game in the series: Yakuza 1 and by association, Yakuza Kiwami, although I insist that no Yakuza game falls lower than a 7/10. Favorite protagonist: Akiyama, for his perfect combination of suave and slob.
[Japanese Entertainment] The unfortunate story of an actor's career being destroyed over false allegations- the story of Hiroki Narimiya
Before we get started, I need to explain a cultural divide between Japan and the West that forms the core of this story. In the west, drug laws are more lax and legalizsation policies for softer substances like marijuana after beginning to come into effect in several large countries. Inversely, Japan despises drug use and has some of the harshest possession laws in the entire world. Being caught possessing something even as low-grade as cannabis can lead to a sentence of up to five years in jail. Officially, even many yakuza clans forbid drug trafficking (though they still control the drug market, especially regarding methamphetamines) as the consequences for drugs are simply too steep to be caught with it. In the entertainment industry in Japan, being caught with drugs leads to an instant exile, as networks, film companies, dubbing studios and more all close their doors on anyone caught engaging in drugs. How strict are they you might ask? In 2019, Pierre Taki, known as part of the musical duo Denki Groove and the dub voice for Olaf in Frozen- was arrested for cocaine possession. Home media versions of Frozen were immediately pulled from stores, while a character Taki played in the game Judge Eyes (called Judgement in the West) had to be edited to remove his character and replace him with a different facial model and voice actor. He was also replaced in Kingdom Hearts 3 in a patch that saw a new actor redub his lines in that game. Their industry does not mess around if you get caught doing drugs is what I'm trying to stress. Today's story unfortunately follows one case where no drugs were involved, but an innocent man's career was destroyed out of what seems to be jealously and spite.
Who is Hiroki Narimiya?
Hiroki Narimiya (born Hiroshige Narimiya) was born in 1982. His parents divorced early in life and while he was in junior high school, his mother passed away. Narimiya quickly left school to support himself and his younger brother, taking on part-time jobs to cover said brother's schooling and college courses. After years of trying to break into acting, Narimiya managed to get a talent scout's eye and made his professional debut in 2000. Within three years, Narimiya had begun the process of being a household name, cutting his teeth in the theatre industry before moving to film and later television with a role in the drama "Gokusen" based off a popular manga. 2003 would see him be part of a box-office hit in the period film Azumi, where Narimiya got praise for his sword skills. Alongside further roles in film, TV and theatre, Narimiya was also a deft model and fashion designer, with his haircut becoming a popular hairstyle young Japanese boys emulated in the 2000s. Within half a decade, Narimiya had become a popular and beloved actor, with his rough childhood giving him a sympathetic edge that had fans rooting for him to be successful in life after the bad hand he'd been dealt early in life. In the early 2010s, Narimiya would star in two productions that began to give him a name in the West- 2010's Yakuza 4 as corrupt cop with a heart of gold (and professional suicide prevention expert)Masayoshi Tanimura, and in the 2012 film adaptation of the Ace Attorney series, where he played leading man Phoenix Wright. Narimiya also got to play Phoenix in the crossover game between Ace Attorney and the Professor Layton series as his second game role. Tanimura especially became the most notable role overseas tied to Narimyra, though the character wouldn't reappear in any subsequent material. He did have a really cool theme song though. As the 2010s continued, Narimiya continued to get steady work in dramas (and this commerical for a Final Fantasy phone game), until December 2016 when everything took a turn for the worse.
December 2016: The frame-up
On December 2nd 2016, major Japanese tabloid Friday released its new issue with a front page story implicated Narimiya in a cocaine scandal, with photographs showing him with alleged drug paraphernalia and a report of him snorting it off a table in his apartment. This was a heavy charge, as cocaine use would land Narimyra in prison and kill his career. Fans of the actor were quick to dispute the story, taking a closer look at the alleged paraphernalia and determining that instead, what Narimiya was sitting with in the photo... was nothing more than candy typically eaten by younger children that involved stirring powder into a small glass of water.Fans of Narimiya breathed a sigh of relief at the news, some expressing bemusement at his sweet tooth, while the actor put out a statement categorically denying Friday's charges. Narimiya would proceed to take a drug test on the 7th that came back negative. His agency mentioned in the statement that they would consider legal action. Despite this, Friday stuck to their guns, now claiming on the 9th to have audio of Narimiya asking for "chaarii"- a pseudonym for cocaine. Soon after the story broke, Narimiya announced to news channels on December 9th that he was leaving the industry over the cocaine charges. Narimiya's agency said when requested that "We could not confirm the objective facts that support the drug use of the person," which indicated that this wasn't a case of Narimiya being forced to retire by his bosses. In the statement, Narimiya clarified that (translated poorly by Google):
Narimiya kept to his word, as after 2016 he effectively vanished from Japanese entertainment, an unfitting end to his decade and a half of work.
The aftermath
It's universally accepted at this point that Narimiya was the victim of a frame job, a false allegation done deliberately to destroy his career. Friday allegedly gloated following Narimiya's retirement only to be met with countless retorts from fans condemning them for running the story, alongside calls to boycott the magazine. The accuser eventually made their own Twitter account which led to the idea that they were an ex-lover of Narimiya who shopped the story around to several outlets until Friday snatched it up. Apparently they were looking for a million yen in exchange for the entire thing. Rumors would begin to go around in the Japanese entertainment community following Narimiya's departure of who was the accuser who had leaked the photos to Friday and what their goal had been. One of the most common beliefs is that the accuser was in fact a bitter ex of Narimiya who sold off the photos following a bad breakup (Narimiya had long been suspected of being homosexual or bisexual, with tweets from as far back as 2009 showing fans claiming he had come out alongside a since-deleted MTV Japan documentary apparently having him point blank come out). Narimiya's retirement would impact some of his prior work, most notably Yakuza 4. In the remaster for the game released in 2019 in Japan and 2020 in the West, Tanimura's face and voice were redone due to Narimiya having left the industry, with actor Toshiki Masuda providing the new performance. Narimiya's case is still brought up to this day, partly thanks to his ties to the Yakuza franchise and newcomers playing the games for the first time following the series seeing a new boon in 2017 with Yakuza 0 and wondering what happened to Tanimura's face in the remaster (alongside Tanimura just being his biggest role outside of Japan). The circumstances of his allegations are often brought up by Westerners as a large example for why Japan's drug laws can be too strict, as even the allegation of drug possession can be enough to completely ruin a career. Since his retirement, Narimiya seems to have moved to Amsterdam per this post on /japan, and he has an active Instagram account that says he's moved back into fashion design and modelling. While it seems Narimiya is happy now in his new life, it remains a great pity that his career was ended so abruptly over what appears to just be a jilted ex-lover who wanted to burn his career down out of jealousy or greed. At the very least, Narimiya has bounced back and found a new job that lets him employ some of his skills and he won't go homeless or destitute soon, but such a betrayal of trust likely left scars that will take years to heal, if they ever do.
How does GTA San Andreas have gang wars, car customization, darts, clothing, pool, dating, a storyline, casino's and so much more while this game has little to do besides killing gangs/stealing stuff in your downtime?
We seem to be going backwards in gaming, this game was supposed to be so much more dense. But after 40 hours of playing I have basically done all side missions and kind of feel like not starting it up again, I've practically seen all the content (except repeat missions or collectables). I don't see how you fix this, there's so much content missing. I expected to be put in some kind of futuristic theme park with a heavy focus on doing fun, stupid, interactive stuff and meeting ridiculous individuals but there is just nothing like it. So apart from the graphics: GTA: San Andreas has more content than Cyberpunk. A 16 year old game has more to do. How do you go from the current state of the game and turn it into what was heavily implied during marketing in a short time span? You don't. Here's a big list of stuff that is missing, posted by u/RalphDamiani. But I don't feel like how significantly little open world content is available is made thoroughly enough. These are things I expected to be in the game (all of them advertised or heavily hinted at): - Actual wanted system. Not this alpha testing filler we got. - Immersive NPCs that don't randomly disappear or all synchronise and run away in the same direction. -Cool mini games with NPC's you meet (Like in the Yakuza series, who have had this since 2008) - Some kind of gang system where you either control business' or have to deal with rival gangs - Meaningful back stories that impact the main story - New lines that make your character sound like he actually is a corpo instead of a street kid/nomad at all the time - Car customization - New gear system with obvious transmog options - New cybernetic system - Body sculpt system - Better animations (I stopped using mantis blade because the strong attack animation takes like 10 seconds to execute) - Fix all the small sound bugs, like footsteps not registering or no dialogue at all And then this glorious statement comes out; '' We'll fix the bugs, don't worry ". The bugs are the least of your problems, they suck but I don't care. They'll get fixed. How about the other 70% of the game, you know, actual stuff to do besides the ridiculously short main story which you can finish in 10 hours? Why do they only put out a statement regarding stability when content is another huge factor? I have no idea how complex a game world is to develop but as a creative marketing guy I'm familiar with creative processes and translating design into working features. A lot ideas get cut out because of technical restraints and money issues. Clients always want more than what they're willing to pay for. But how do you make all your money back from pre-orders, and then deliver a product like this? (With a good 5-6 years of development time) You do that when you only care about making money and don't care about the artistic integrity of your studio. The developers/studio guys that worked hard are not to blame, they are the artists. I love what they did, it looks great. Corporate is to blame, they already made back their investment with pre-orders but want more sales with Christmas. How incredibly ironic that a game exploring toxic capitalism is largely ruined by toxic capitalism. What a joke. TLDR: Great tech demo, love it. But come on bro, don't promise me a brand new lambo and deliver a beat up civic.

YAKUZA SERIES PLAY ORDER FOR NEWCOMERS - PS4/5 - XB1/SX/SX - PC
It's like Dunkey always says - "if you want something done right, you gotta do it all by yourself" TLDR play order for the mainline series:
Yakuza 0
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
OPTIONAL - Yakuza: Dead Souls - NOT CANON TO THE MAIN SERIES STORY
Yakuza 5
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
OPTIONAL - JUDGEMENT - HAS REFERENCES TO THE MAIN SERIES BUT ISN'T INTEGRAL
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
OPTIONAL - Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise - PURELY SPINOFF TITLE USING GAMEPLAY FROM YAKUZA SERIES
Hey there kyodai, this is the New and Improved "I'm Tired of Seeing This Posted 300 Times a Day" Yakuza series play order post! We haven't had one of these stickied in a long time, and I doubt this one will be, but at least we will have something to link to! Please feel free to link to it as you see fit! This guide covers the titles on all available current/next gen platforms and PC. Yes I know Yakuza exists on PS2 and PS3, nobody cares anymore. This guide is also just in reference to the NA releases and doesn't go into the PSP titles or the JPN exclusives ISHIN and KENZAN. This is to help the influx of new Xbox and PC players. I will update this post as new releases on PS5 and the like become available! PLEASE NOTE! All physical releases for the PS4 and XB1 will work on new gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. WHERE TO START WITH THE YAKUZA SERIES REGARDLESS of what console you play on, the games are meant to be played chronologically. There is the argument that the story is best played by release date and I will refute that statement until my dying breath. Because it doesn't make sense. Why would you play through the series, then go back to 0, a prequel, then BACK to 6, the end? That's dumb. In the same vein, if you want to experience the entire saga the way it's intended, DON'T SKIP GAMES. Just watching the cutscenes leaves sooo much to be desired. YOU START THE SERIES FROM YAKUZA 0. 0 is available on all platforms and can be had the following ways:
Digitally on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Origins bundle on Playstation
Digitally with GAMEPASS on Xbox and PC
Physically as a standalone blue case release on PS4
Physically as a standalone red case Greatest Hits release on PS4
NEXT IS YAKUZA KIWAMI Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of Yakuza on the PS2. It uses a very similar style to Yakuza 0 combat wise and is about half as long. Kiwami is available the following ways:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Origins bundle on PlayStation
Digitally with GAMEPASS on Xbox and PC
Physically as a standalone blue case release on PS4
Physically as a standalone red case Greatest Hits release on PS4
Physically as a standalone Steelbook release on PS4
AFTER THAT IS YAKUZA KIWAMI 2 Kiwami 2 is a remake of Yakuza 2 originally released for the PS2. This is the first CHRONOLOGICAL game to use the Dragon Engine. The combat is most similar to Yakuza 6 and JUDGMENT. It's available the following ways:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Origins bundle on PlayStation
Digitally with GAMEPASS on Xbox and PC
Physically as a standalone blue case release on PS4
Physically as a standalone red case Greatest Hits release on PS4
Physically as a standalone Steelbook release on PS4
NEXT IS YAKUZA 3 Yakuza 3 was first released on the PS3 in NA and Japan and acts as a sort of soft reboot for the series in HD. Until just last year it was only ever available on disc but now you've got the following ways to grab it:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Physically as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation
Physically on PS3
LOGICALLY, YAKUZA 4 IS NEXT Yakuza 4 marked the first time RELEASE DATE WISE that you could play as someone other than Kiryu. 4 introduced 3 new protagonists to the mix and can be played the follow ways:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Physically as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation
Physically on PS3
YOU GUESSED IT, YAKUZA 5 COMES AFTER THAT Yakuza 5 brings us 5, count em', FIVE protagonists and is arguably the largest game in the series (although 7 comes damn close). Until recently, 5 was a downloadable only title on the PS Store but can now be purchased as such:
Digitally as a standalone title on the PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Digitally as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation, Xbox and PC
Physically as part of the Yakuza Remastered Collection on PlayStation
FINALLY WE END WITH YAKUZA 6 Yakuza 6 is the final chapter of Kiryu's saga and for now is only available:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation
Physically as a standalone blue case PlayStation release
Physically as a standalone Artbook case PlayStation release
Physically as a standalone red Greatest Hits PlayStation release
THE SERIES STARTS ANEW WITH YAKUZA: LIKE A DRAGON The newest title in the Yakuza series is Yakuza: Like a Dragon. This game features a totally new protagonist and main area to explore, as well as introduces a brand new, turn based battle system. It's a fantastic game and a welcome change to the formula, despite what Reddit would have you believe. Grab it any of the following ways:
Digitally as a standalone title on PlayStation, Xbox or PC
Physically as a Steelbook release on PlayStation and Xbox
Physically as a standalone blue case release on PS4
And that's it! Feel free to browse but not to carouse!
AITA for becoming annoyed with my roommates' fandom decor
Ok, first time posting here and I'm not a huge reddit user. Sorry for any formatting problems as I'm on my phone. My housemate (29f) and I (30f) are both pretty nerdy people. She's very into Star Wars and the Marvel movies while I'm more of a video game girl. If anyone has been to an EB Game store lately you'll know that there are huge amounts of fandom bits and bobs you can buy for around the house. My housemate has completely filled the kitchen and living room with these items. Now that she's decorated these rooms to her liking she has had her eyes on my room. I have many fandom items on display in my room - a Dishonored mask at the top of my book shelf, a wall of framed Yakuza fanart prints and a few Transformers scattered around next to my fossil collection and orchid plants. I keep my door open during the day as I'm in Australia and would bake if the door was not open. The other day I came home to find my housemate had removed some of my prints to install some kind of Star Wars led wall lamp setup. When I got annoyed and asked why she took down my art she told me she couldn't fit it anywhere else and it matched the ones she had bought for her room and the living room. She also put up some expensive model of a life sized baby yoda on top of my bookshelf because she would be able to see it when she walked past. I pulled the lamp down and rehung my prints. I then took down yoda and left both items on the couch. Now my housemate is angry I ruined the theme she was going for in the house. She told me she spent a lot of money on those gifts. But...I don't personally like Star Wars. I've not even seen the newest film or the new tv show because I honestly do not care. I understand she thinks of these items as gifts, but I let her know that honestly I would be happy with our fandom items staying in our rooms. I'm not buying Dead by Daylight branded cookware, I don't understand why it all needed to be Avengers themed. She got really upset and started slamming things into drawers since I wanted her to 'hide that she's nerdy'. TLDR: My housemate entered my room to put up decorative items I didn't like, I told her not everything in the house needed to be Star Wars. I feel like I might be the asshole as our rooms matching is clearly something she feels strongly about.
This game has a lot of problems.... Lets Discuss them!
Introduction I have a lot of problems with this game. Here's a list of them and how i'd fix them. Let's a go. Locations & level design One of the biggest problems this game has with it's locations, is that they treat their regions as tile sets rather than actual cohesive areas. Let me show you what I mean. Destiny 2's Earth map This is an image from Destiny 2 that shows the layout of it's earth map. Notice how the map has named locations and a clear layout of where exactly every area is. Now, Any mission that takes place on Earth in Destiny 2 takes place somewhere on this map. This gives the player a sense of direction and allows them to use their own knowledge of the map to get around quickly. Because everything on earth takes place on this one map, It allows the developers to hand craft it to a beautiful degree and fill it with easter eggs and secrets that players can find. Now, Let's compare this to Avengers. Utah Badlands Every mission in a region takes place in it's own map seperate from every other mission in that region. This means that nearly every mission has its own unique map and layout (some use the same). Now you may be saying to yourself "Isn't that a good thing? nearly every mission has its own unique map!?". Except it's not a good thing, it's not a good thing at all. Instead of Taking Destiny 2's approach and creating one well crafted region with recognizable landmarks, they instead made individual small maps by hand that all look the same and have no unique identity. This ends up making the locations feel like they were created by procedural generation. They didn't make Utah Badlands a unique region by giving it deep caverns, high rising cliff sides and unique areas with secrets. No, they made it a "unique" region by putting rocks everywhere and making it brown. Pacific northwest is "unique" because it has trees and everything is green. Eastern seaboard is a just a generic city that only feels "unique" because of how it takes place in a populated area. The thing that irks me the most is that they're well able to craft unique and cool looking locations in this game. Golden Acres in the Utah Badlands The decomissoned helicarrier also in Utah Badlands They create these cool landmarks and locations that are only ever used once in story mode. Instead of booting up missions with friends and going, "Oh cool, we have to go to golden acres for this mission!", instead we're going "Oh cool, this mission takes us to an aim lab! Just like that last mission...at least we get to look at rocks on the way there?". Super duper amazing photoshop edits all done by me This is a shitty mockup done by me to show just a rough example of what I would want from a region in Marvel's Avengers. The cool thing about having an all connected map means they could allow players to do something similar to Destiny called "Patrols". I'll get to this point in a different section. Another quick obvious flaw with the locations is that they are not exactly "Marvel locations". Here's a quick list of locations that could be cool to visit.
Wakanda
Tokyo (if a ronin storyline ever happens)
Asgard
Sokovia
Sanctum Sanctorum (that leads into nightmarish / dreamlike areas)
A Kree Ship
Avengers tower (more so as a hub, but a mission where you take it back or get attacked like in "Age of Ultron" could be fun)
Loot & Gear So gear kinda sucks in this game. It's a png with stats (that are usually bad) and they usually have uninspiring perks. It is not appealing to grind for loot in this game. However, there is a fundamental flaw with gear and stats in this game that I think in the long run make the combat even more repetitive than it already is. List of Stats:
Might - Melee damage
Precision - Ranged damage
Proficiency- Crit chance / Perk chance
Valor - Heroic effectiveness / crit damage
Resolve - Max health / health recovery
Resilience - Armor
Intensity - stun + status meter damage/ Status resistance.
Now, I don't mind the game having in depth stats and breaking them up into small groups. However, the two main ones I have a problem with are "Might'' & "Precision". Now, it makes sense why these two are both separate stats. It makes the ideas of builds sound more viable and entices the players to play the characters however they want. The problem with this is the fact that in most viable builds, players can really only choose one of the damage stats, which leads to the other being useless. This ends up limiting the usefulness of a character's combat kit. https://preview.redd.it/vfq8qzsbhxg61.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6dacb510c767e8b6b5a78448d1622b955e5876fc Let's take Iron man for example. I have invested a lot into precision, leaving might left behind in it's dust. This means I can only really use iron man's ranged weapons if I actually want to do damage, which isn't terrible as I wanted to make Iron man a ranged character anyway. However, I'm better off never using his melee combat, which means I can say goodbye to some of my skills. bye bye to those melee skills! At Least I still have my repulsors, Lasers and Rockets. Awesome!....But this is not entirely the case. If I really want to make a good character build, I'm gonna have to mess with my gear perks and the battery effect. What is the battery effect? It's pretty much the idea of applying one status effect to any enemy (Cosmic, particle, Plasma) then attacking with the opposite (Gamma, shock, cryo). These status effects are found on gear in the ranged slot and melee slot. example of status effect on gear for Captain America Now unlike a game like Destiny 2, which also has different status types on its gear, The perks that give you status type damage only apply to certain combat moves, not all of them. In the picture above, it shows how my light combo finisher AND heavy power attacks deal cryo damage. This forces me as a player to spam these specific moves out over and over again to get my characters full damage potential. The funny thing about the gear I chose to show off as an example is that it's an "Exotic" piece of gear, the highest rarity of gear in the game. What's unique about some of the exoitc gear pieces is how some give you status type damage on two of your moves. Exotic gear is incredibly hard to find, nevermind a piece that has good stats and two status type damages as a perk. This means more often than not, your gear will only provide you with 1 way to provide status type damage, meaning players will often be spamming only 1 type of melee move and only 1 type of ranged move. Let's bring this all back to my Iron man build. Let's say I get particle status type damage on my rockets. This means my rockets are the only really viable ranged move I have. Uh oh. This will force me into a repetitive combat loop where I will pretty much ignore all my moves except rockets. Bye bye to pretty much everything This will end up making arguably the best thing about Marvel's Avengers, it's combat, into a repetitive slog in the endgame. In some ways, the combat is actually more fun before you reach base power cap of 130 because you can use anything you want without worrying. So much love went into these characters skill sets yet all these restrictions put on them with gear just ruins it all. I don't have thousands of hours invested into looter shooters like other people have, but I think I have some ideas to make it all more appealing.
First of all, turn might and precision stats into gear slot specific stats. What I mean by this, is that my melee and ranged gear slots should act more like weapons from Destiny or Borderlands. My melee attacks shouldn't rely on stats accumulated from all my gear pieces like Chest, utility, ranged or my artifacts. They should instead just rely on the gear piece in my melee slot. Same with ranged gear pieces.
Secondly, if a ranged or melee gear piece does status type damage, it should be applied to all my attacks and not specific ones. For example, If I'm iron man and I get a ranged gear piece that does Cryo status type damage, I should be able to do cryo damage with my Rockets, Repulsors and Lasers.
Ok, I want to quickly cover gear and their perks and why they suck. I feel as though the most exciting part of looter shooters is seeing what their new loot pick up does. Of course they're excited to see what kind of stats it has, but more often than not, they're excited to see what differentiates it from everything else. This usually occurs in the perks of gear. However, this is not the case for gear in Avengers. Perks only start to get sort of interesting once you reach Exotic rarity gear. However, I say only "sort" of interesting, because the perks on the exotic gear are usually on the same level of perks you'd find on lower level gear in other looter games, such as Destiny 2. Making exciting gear in this game is probably harder than most looter games, due to it being a 3rd person action game rather than a shooter and it also has to deal with a lot of different characters. Personally, If I was Crystal dynamics, I would take the perks exclusive to exotic gear, and put it on legendary and epic gear. They should then re-work all exotic gear to be muuuuuch more exicitng. Here's a few dumb examples of perks
When Iron Man gets in Hulkbuster, his normal suit of armour is taken off of him and acts as an helpful ai for the team
Thor's ranged attack no longer throws mjolnir, but instead shoots lightning, causing bonus shock damage.
Everytime Kate teleports, she leaves behind a decoy that acts like her support skill decoy but is 50% weaker. Can only have 5 max decoys at one time.
etc. etc. You guys get my point. Before I move on from loot and gear, I'd like to make a short list of fixes for battling the rng of loot
Re-rolls on gear
certain Exotic's have a chance of dropping anywhere, specific exotics and higher chances of getting them exclusive to certain missions.
I'm not a big fan of artifacts and exotic artifacts, but if they have to stay, at least make them usable by all characters
Traversal Ok, I'mma make this one quick. Traversal is not great. I appreciate how they tried to give all the characters different ways of movement, but none of them feel exactly good. I feel as though if we ever get large connected maps and "patrol" mission types, movement being improved is a necessity. I don't know how to fix traversal, but I'll just give some examples
Certain ground characters like Cap, Black Panther and Bucky gotta run at this speed. They have to.
Hulk absolutely needs a charge jump like hulk Ultimate destruction
Flying characters need their speed increased
If we do get more open maps, Characters like black widow could possibly get vehicles?
When Spider-Man is introduced, the more open maps means he has a higher possibility of having a pretty good web slinging system. With the maps we have now though, and the way black widow swings off of poles with no momentum, it might not look too good.
Unrelated, but when/if falcon is released, we better be able to recreate that flying sequence through the canyon from "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier" trailer.
I feel as though having fast paced, good traversal is needed for the power fantasy of being a superhero. Let's hope they can come up with something good. Mission types / variety I feel as though the biggest complaint about Marvel's Avengers right now is lack of content. going through floors and floors of Aim labs and fighting 4 villains (If you include aim Mech's as villians) is very repetitive. I can only hope Crystal Dynamics know what they're doing to combat the repetitiveness. Here's a few fun notes I had.
Raid like content is needed. Increase the max player count and give players mechanics unique to that mission
Patrols from Destiny. I've mentioned these already, but it's pretty much free roam around a region with no specific mission. Allows you to explore, find secrets, take on bounties and just mess around. I feel as though if we get Bigger maps and an overhauled traversal system, this mode would be a fan favourite.
Horde - survival mode
Payload push mode
Seasonal events with unique spins on existing content with unique rewards, for example at halloween, horde mode could be based on marvel zombies, with a zombie cosmetic as a reward.
One thing I wanted to mention is solo player content. At the moment, it makes sense Crystal dynamics should focus on multiplayer content as that is lacking badly. However, I would like to see a return of single player only story missions. When new characters like Dr. Strange is introduced, I'd love to see a single player only story mode where you play as Dr. Strange on your own trying to go up against a threat before you meet the avengers. If Crystal dynamics ever do focus on single player, story missions, here a few examples I think would be fun
Cap and Falcon infiltrating a hydra base
Thor returns to asgard alone where he faces Loki
Hawkeye / Ronin goes to tokyo to take on the yakuza
Monetization This is a point that is moot to argue about, but I'll do it anyway. I hate Microtransactions. I hate how there is a cosmetic store where outfits are being sold at $14 a piece. I feel as though in a game with superheroes as iconic as these, and with such iconic outfits, it feels terrible to have to pay for the outfits instead of earning them. If I was able to change this, I would do this: Get rid of premium currency. Every 3 months, a battle pass is released for $20 with 150 tiers. All the rest of the new cosmetics are distributed through the cosmetic vendor, Patterns, seasonal events and certain mission rewards. Giving us a large battle pass is also another incentive to log on daily and gives the player a sense of progression. Hell, If Crystal Dynamics gave us 2 years of good support, I wouldn't mind paying for big expansions from year 3 onwards. Conclusion: ok...this was a pretty long post. Now, throughout this whole post, all I did was complain. Complaining, complaining & more complaining, But I only wrote out this whole post because of how much I love this ip and how much faith I have in this game and Crystal Dynamics. I don't expect them to make all these changes, or even any of them, but I expect them to do better. Which I think they will. I've been around this game since early 2017 when they showed the teaser trailer. I snooped around the orignal Reddit for this game when it was still known as the "Avengers project". I was here for every rumour, prediction, wishlist and "leak". I remeber when this one guy called "scirius" leaked how this game would be an ultimate alliance reboot and had something dumb like 70 playable characters and a hells kitchen expanison. ahhhh good times. I was here for the e3 2019 reveal backlash. I was here for the lack of information for months (good to see that never changed lol) and I was here for the launch. What i'm trying to say is, I'll be here till the end. Whether that end is a year from now or 10 years from now, I'll be here. Cause I can do this all day. tl;dr: Fix Hulk’s hair pls
